Bwindi Hospital

The hospital has developed a community mental health service linked to their community development work over the past 4 years.  This is based on well-established groups in the villages, which are used for other health related work as well.  They are doing well at identifying new patients with mental illness and are working hard at screening patients who attend the hospital for problems with alcohol, which is relatively common.

They are developing plans to increase the mental health work in the community to reduce stigma and increase the knowledge of local leaders, and also to have a counsellor to work with patients with mental health issues.

Jamie’s Fund is supporting a nurse and a counsellor and helping with transport.
